FAQ

How many guitar chords do I need to know?

Most pop songs use the six or seven diatonic chords of one key plus a few 7th chords. Start with the nine beginner chords above.

What if I can't play barre chords yet?

Put a capo on and play an open-chord shape instead — it sounds the same. Every chord page lists the capo positions under “Play it easier with a capo”.

How do I move a chord progression to another key?

Move every chord root up or down by the same number of semitones. The progression player has a transpose control that does it for you.

Shapes shared by most chord references are listed first — part of the fingering data comes from chords-db (MIT License).
