FAQ
Which scale should I learn first for guitar solos?
The minor pentatonic (5 notes). Learn just one position and you'll only play “safe” notes over most rock, blues and pop progressions. Then expand to the major scale and the blues scale.
What's the difference between the major and minor scale?
They can share the same seven notes but start on a different note — C major and A minor have identical notes (relative keys). The lowered 3rd, 6th and 7th make minor sound darker.
When do I use modes like Dorian or Mixolydian?
When one chord is held for a long time and you want to bring out its color: Dorian over m7 chords, Mixolydian over dominant 7th chords.
